​On Feb 19, 1942 over 110,000 Japanese Americans were sent into internment camps. They were forced to give up their homes, their businesses and their way of life. They were also forbidden to practice the art of Judo.
The honorable man who taught me Judo in his basement in El Paso, Texas learned his art in these camps at the age of 8 in secrecy.
Sensei Hayashi was a an amazing man who I learned much from. ...
As I hear of others who fear out of ignorance and hear hate trying to rule the day, I remember a humble, honorable, American who rose to become a great teacher to me.
